If you can’t tell from my website, I’m a History Nerd. So as I started rebooting my presidential channel, I also decided to delve into a historical/documentary channel with a broader appeal and an “edgier” tone. And thus, in September 2024, “Gross History” was born.
I really had no idea how the channel was going to do, but, I’m happy to say, it took off like a bullet. I had successfully monetized the channel within two months, going from 0 subscribers to over 2500 and from 0 views to over 250K views in that same time period.
I try to use as many historical photos and documents as possible, but when I can’t find the right visual, I use the AI programs Stable Diffusion and/or Runway to create additional materials. Even though I’ve done lots of voiceovers in my time as well, I’m using an AI generated UK English voice for my narrator. I like him a lot. I've named him Nigel.
Ever wonder what life was really like aboard a British Navy ship in the 1800s? Spoiler: it was disgusting. 🤢
From rat-infested quarters to bug-ridden food, no toilets, and the constant stench of disease and unwashed sailors, life on the high seas was anything but glamorous. In this episode of Gross History, we take you below deck to explore the grim, slimy, and stomach-turning reality sailors faced every day.
If you think you can handle it, dive in!
